Thieves strike for major jewelry heist at 400 flea marketPosted March 19, 2007Burglars made off with between $300,000 and $400,000 in jewelry from the 400 Flea Market during an early hours break-in Sunday morning at the popular weekend attraction north east of Alliston. "The suspects gained entry to the premises through the roof and used a ladder to make their way to the floor," according to a South Simcoe Police report released this morning. "A jewelry vendor at this location was the target. Their safe was broken into and a large quantity of jewelry was taken." 400 Flea Market is located on Hwy 400 immediately north of Innisfil Beach Road and is open to the public on weekends only. It opened in 1986, and has since expanded three times to accommodate more than 300 vendors - including about a dozen who sell jewelry spread out over 105,000 sq. ft. Police did not release any further details. The investigation continues. Please use "Letter to the Editor" in subject line. |
