Township says, 'no access to financial records or personal tax information'

Posted May 29, 2014

Computers and a small quantity of cash and cheques payable to Adjala-Tosorontio, were reported stolen from the break-in to Township Office on 30 Sideroad, sometime overnight May 26th.

The initial report about the incident from Nottawasaga OPP did not disclose what what was taken, but a press release posted on the Township's web site yesterday sought to assure its residents that peronsal information was not breeched.

"Despite the break-in and theft, there was no access to financial records or personal tax information" according to a quote attributed to mayor Tom Walsh. "Our information system remains secure."

The press release goes on to say that, "A few personal cheques payable to the Township were taken and staff will be following up with the persons who issued these cheques. The Township apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate event but will carry on with business as usual. It is our understanding that there have been a rash of break-ins in the area and we ask resident' s to be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity to the Nottawasaga OPP."

The investigation continues.
