New aerial truck won't add to Town's debt load

August 28, 2012

New Tecumseth councillors voted last night to drain its fleet reserve fund, and utlize projected year-end operating surplus to fund the purchase of a demonstrator model aerial fire truck rather than borrow the money to buy it.

The original recommendation from two weeks ago passed in committee that would have debentured the $750,000 price tag, was instead amended so that $573,294 will come from the Town's Fleet Reserve and the balance from the 2012 Town surplus, and if not adequate any shortfall from the HEC Reserve Fund.

The aerial truck, which will be stationed in Tottenham, is being purchased one year ahead of schedule because the current one has mechanical problems that renders it useless as intended.
