Alliston Hornets ranked number 1 Jr. C team in Ontario

Posted November 6, 2009

It's the Devils they know for a second Friday in a row as Alliston hosts Fergus tonight at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre for one of two games this weekend for the Hornets.

Tomorrow night, Alliston travels to Erin to hook-up with the Shamrocks.

The mix at the top spot continues with Penetang and Stayner sharing first place with 23 points, followed by Alliston in third with 20 points. But Alliston has played the fewest number of games thus far in league action. Heading into tonight's games, Alliston holds four games in hand on Stayner, and three games on Penetang.

Hornets ranked number 1 for Ontario Jr C

The Alliston Hornets are ranked the number 1 Jr. C team in Ontario by Junior Hockey Rankings. The Belle River Canadians are number 2, followed by Penetang Kings, Essex 73s and the Stayner Siskins.

Junior Hockey Rankings "the most comprehensive junior ice hockey site on the web" uses a formula that factors wins, losses, goals for, goals against, and strength of opponent, "combined with the input from junior hockey coaches at various levels through the country."

Hornets to host benefit game for CT Scanner

The Alliston Hornets game against the Penetang Kings Sun., Nov. 22 at 6:30 pm at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre will be in support of the CT scanner at Stevenson Memorial Hospital. Proceeds from the game will be donated to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation's fundraising efforts for the CT scanner. Reserved seating tickets are available in advance on Hornets game nights or at the rec centre's guest services desk. Donations will also be accepted.

Five Hornets named to all-star game roster

This year's Jr. C all-star game between the Georgian Mid Ontario Hockey League and the Western Ontario League will be played on Sun., Nov. 22 in Mt Forest starting at 2 pm.

The Alliston Hornets have five players on the roster led by captain Kyle McDowell, one of four overagers (OA) permitted to play. McDowell will be joined by defencemen Kyle Montpetit, and Cody Rhodes, and upfront by Randy Cox and Mike Campeau. Hornets trainer Chris Pilon will also serve behind the bench. Hornets goaltender Breton MacKinnon, who for the second year in a row leads the league in goaltending statistics, was shutout from the team because of the restrictions on OAs.

And, in a bid to inject more meaning into the annual affair, the leagues have agreed to a two-year experiment whereby the winning side would have home ice advantage when they meet up during the Clarence Schmalz Cup provincial playoffs.
