Hornets climb back into first place with pair of winsPosted November 16, 2009While Stayner lost to Erin in overtime Saturday night, Alliston won in Penetang 5-3 for a share of first place with the Siskins at 28 points. But the Hornets hold four games in hand. Originally scheduled to play three games over the weekend, Sunday's date in Fergus was postponed because both Devils' goaltenders are out with injuries, and calibre back-ups weren't available. On Friday night, Alliston hosted Schomberg, and as expected rolled to an easy 7-2 win over their southern rivals. Hornets captain Kyle McDowell and Randy Cox led the way with two goals each, with singles to Andre Lessard, Alex Botten, and Kyler Nixon. Breton MacKinnon got his 10th win in net. Saturday night, it was off to Penetang for a clash of these two league rivals fighting again for top position, the Kings Alliston's only blemish thus far. That came in their Oct. 17 meeting in Penetang, where the Kings won 3-1. This time, Alliston came out charging wasting little time, in fact, only 20 seconds in McDowell scored unassisted for a quick 1-0 lead. Chad Camirand would follow that up about five minutes later assisted by Cole Parker and Jason Campeau. Special teams would take over after that, with Mike Campeau scoring the game's first of five powerplay goals, unassisted at 6:50 of the first. Kyle Montpetit would make it 4-0 on the powerplay assisted by Botten and Eric Shannon at 14:11. The Kings would score a pair of powerplays of their own in the second, both by Jordan Bailey including one at 4:33 with Daniel Letour off for hooking, then again at 9:09 with Jordan Crandell in the box for roughing. Penetang's Shawn Moser would close the gap to 4-3, on the powerplay at 3:56 of the third as Jason Campeau was serving an interference penalty. Randy Cox would ice the win at 18:01, assisted by Mike Campeau and Cole Parker. MacKinnon got his league leading 11th win in goal. Stayner, Penetang in for weekend matches including benefit gameIt's a three game weekend coming up for Alliston including pivotal home games against Stayner Friday night at 7:30 pm, then on the road to Midland Saturday, and back home Sunday for the Hornets benefit game with proceeds to SMH's CT Scanner program, against Penetang starting at 6:30 pm.Expect both sides to have some tired legs as five players from Penetang and Alliston will be in Mount Forest for the 2 pm all-star game.
