Fate of Alliston Zellers still not sealed, 'business as usual,' HBC

While select Zellers locations across the country prepare for their transformation into American retailing giant Target stores to open in 2013, the spurned outlet in Alliston remains in limbo.

The Young Street Zellers, which opened in September 2002 was not included among the 220 outlets purchased by the Minneapolis-based retailer from HBC for $1.82 billion last January. It's one of 84, that Lisa Gibson of Target Canada told Free Press Online at the time, did not fit their plans "based on customized, site-specific trade area analysis to determine which ones would meet our financial return criteria and achieve our long-term financial goals."

Tiffany Bourre, HBC's External Communications Manager, told Free Press Online this morning in an email that "We are still reviewing our options for the non-acquired Zellers stores. The Alliston location does not have a scheduled closing date, and it continues to operate business as usual."
