Consultant guiding AMA task force, fixing roof top of
The Alliston Memorial Arena (AMA) upgrades task force
committee is scheduled to meet again on Feb. 20 to start the process of
lining up the proposed projects gathered as part of the public input
session held recently, and the potential funding sources to undertake
CAO Terri Caron has used funds from her office budget to
engage a facilitator, Domenic Lunardo, Senior Advisor, with MPHM
Project Managers Inc. for the duration of the project.
"Mr. Lunardo brings 33 years experience in public service in
the area of facilities and parks. His most recent position was the
Commissioner of Community Services for the Town of Oakville overseeing,
fire, recreation and culture, parks and open space, and libraries." He
is being assisted by David Main, in the preparation of detailed cost
analysis for proposed projects."
Phase 2 of the two-part, $250,000 (50/50 funding split with
federal government) renovations - structural, electrical, accessible -
are nearing completion and the next component are those projects
suggested by user groups and other "friends" of the AMA willing to
provide funding for them. Among them are the Alliston Firefighters'
Association and its stated commitment to heating the dry pad.
Task force chair Jamie Smith noted this morning the top
priority is fixing the roof to stop the leaks.
"Water on the surface makes it unusable to use the dry surface
because a slippery surface is dangerous," wrote Ward 2 councillor Smith via email this morning. "The
should dos are: fix the floor in the community centre, upgrade the
kitchen, rebuild the snack bar, improve the air circulation on the old
ice surface. There are a lot of other smaller projects."
