Arena decision pushed back to September

Posted July 24, 2012

When last we left off, the fate of Alliston Memorial Arena was in the hands of Parks and Recreation Manager Ray Osmond to investigate whether the sprinkler system installed for an ice rink could handle the dry uses, while also determining what accessibilty upgrades required attention. That was back in June, and the report back was expected to take a couple weeks.

More than a month later, there was chatter about a report going to councillors by July 23 (yesterday) and a special meeting planned for July 30. That's gone by the wayside now and it's expected instead to be a sole agenda item at a special committee of council meeting sometime in September.

Council is off for the next month, not meeting again until Aug. 13, followed by a break for councillors to attend the AMO conference (Aug. 19-22 in Ottawa).

Avoiding a meeting in July is intended to avoid the spectre of people complaining that they were on vacation and unable to take part in the debate.
