Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will add 12 classroom
portables to the new Alliston Union Public School (AUPS) site to
accommodate at least 165 more students than the three-storey
structure's capacity of 507.
The SCDSB, which already allowed for six portables, is seeking an
amendment to the site plan agreement with the Town for an additional
six, plus 12 more parking spaces.
In a report to trustees last month, John Dance, the Board's
Superintendent of Facility Services said projected enrolment increases
are driven by new residential development, whose impact should stablize
once it's built-out.
"In the short term, the school is able to accommodate all students
without undue pressure. Staff will continue to monitor enrolment and
utilization and suggest a long term strategy via the annual Capital
The $10 million replacement school is located at 211 Church St. N. and
is scheduled to open in September. It features 22 classrooms including
five Full Day Kindergarten classrooms and one Learning Centre.
