Banting misses cut for third year, but Board secures funds for three new schools

Posted January 29, 2018

The Simcoe County District School Board announced this morning the Ministry of Education will fund three new elementary schools in Bradford, Oro-Medonte and Wasaga Beach.

But a replacement building for Banting Memorial High School in Alliston was passed over for the third year in a row.

Brian Jeffs, Superintendent of Business & Facility Services, told Free Press Online, "We do believe a strong business case for a Banting replacement school needs to include a community hub."

A new elementary school in Bradford was the Board's top priority, followed by Banting.

Additionally, the ministry has approved Early Years Capital Project funding to support two child care projects located at Lake Simcoe Public School in Innisfil and Pine River Elementary School in Angus.

The Ministry, which earlier this month announced it will allocate $784 million to finance 39 new schools, and 40 "major" renovations and additions across the province, will post the results on its web site, Jan. 31.
