Board confirms Alliston Union name to live on, appoints new VP

Posted December 19, 2013

Simcoe County Public School Board trustees confirmed last night the name Alliston Union Public School (AUPS) will follow the staff and students to its new location on Church Street North when it opens next September.

As reported here Dec. 2, retaining the school's original name was a unanimous decision of the ad-hoc naming committee, and supported by 80 per cent or 199 of the 248 votes cast by anonymous ballot among members of the AUPS community.

William Fletcher Public School, (first white settler in Alliston, 1847); and Sidney P. Owen Public School (long time principal at Banting Memorial High School), were the other two slections on the short-list.

Also last night, the Board announced that Alison Golding from W.H. Day E.S. will become the new vice-principal at AUPS effective January 6, 2014. Ms. Golding will replace Shirley Kennedy who moves to Steele Street P.S.
