Work underway to restore water in Beeton, boil advisory still in place

Posted January 19, 2013

Press Release - Residents of the Beeton community are advised to boil drinking water until further notice.

There was a water main break in Beeton last evening. Public Works staff worked quickly to identify the problem and to provide an alternate water source.

The advisory is precautionary due to a brief period of low pressure in the water system during the water main break. As a proactive measure a boil water advisory is being put in place in coordination with the Ministry of Health. No negative test results have been received.

A boil water advisory means that people who take their water from the municipal system should NOT:
  • Drink the water
  • Use it to brush their teeth
  • Use it to wash foods, such as fruits and vegetables which will be eaten raw.
  • Water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil and allowed to boil for one full minute before use.
  • For cooking purposes, ensure that the water comes to a full boil.
The water main repair commenced January 19, 2013 at 6:30am and will be followed by system flushing in the afternoon. System sampling will be taken as soon as the flushing is completed, and once clear results are received, residents and the media will be advised.

Staff are continuously monitoring the water system and will do so until the system is fully restored. Required precautions have and will continue to be taken to ensure the protection of residents.  A temporary supply line has been connected and the 9th Line will be closed at the 10th Sideroad while the supply line is required.

Boil water advisory in effect in Beeton

Posted January 19 - A break in the watermain into Beeton last night has forced the Town to issue a boil water advisory for all municipal water users in Beeton until further notice. Beeton firefighters were patrolling neighbourhoods last night just before midnight announcing the advisory through loud speakers. A temporary connection has been made that is keeping the water flowing. More details as the situation is updated.
