Cty Rd 50 closure starts Monday for next three weeks
A 100 metre stretch of Simcoe County Road 50 (Cty Rd), 0.1 km north of
5 Sideroad will be closed to traffic starting Mon., Sept. 9 to Fri.,
Sept. 27 so a cross-culvert can be installed and the road bed
reinforced after that portion was discovered earlier this summer to
contain "unsuitable soils underneath the current shoulder" which "any
further excavation and it is possible
the existing roadway could collapse."
A report to Simcoe County councillors in August seeking authority to
implement the temporary road closure measures, noted the soil
conditions were unearthed during excavation of the area for
construction of the new staging lanes.
This component of the Cty Rd 50 improvement program is Phase 6
Construction is currently ongoing for the County of Simcoe improvement
program for County Road 50 - Phase 6 from approximately 1.0 km north of
5 Sideroad to 1.2 km south of 5 Sideroad.
"Local access will be maintained at all times for residents and
businesses. One lane access will be provided north of the road closure
to the north project limit and a turn-around area will be constructed
to allow school buses, garbage trucks, etc. to continue their regular
pickups as scheduled. County Road 50 between Highway #9 and the 5
Sideroad intersection will remain open with two lanes of traffic," according to the
County's public notice. "Detour and road closure notification signs
will be installed and maintained throughout the road closure. The
detour route will utilize County Road 1, Adjala-Tecumseth Townline and
5 Sideroad Adjala for north and southbound traffic. The truck detour
route will utilize 10 Sideroad Adjala and Concession Road 3." Below is
the detour routes including in blue for truck traffic.
