The Renegade Derby Dames kick-off their second season tomorrow night at
the Alliston Memorial Arena against the Atom Smashers of Durham Region
Roller Derby. Doors open at 6 pm, bout starts at 7:30 pm.
This will be the first bout for many for the members of the Bombshell
Battalion, with several recent graduated from RDD's Fresh Meat Training
program hitting the track for the first time in a live bout. Katie
K.O., CR8N' KAOS, Jam N' Taz and others will be donning the Orange and
Blue of the Battalion for the first time.
The Battalion will be led by their captain, Flyin' O'Brien and
assistant captain Pink Slamminade. With a roster filled with derby
veterans Go-DIVE-a, Keri Daway, Ali Bam Her Slam Her and bolstered by
relative newcomers Megan P.I., Monster Muffin and KimBUSTion, look for
the Battalion to play a strong bout without ever stopping.
Despite being ranked 87th in Canadian travel teams, with a strong
performance, the Battalion could make a significant jump up the
rankings.
This is the second visit to the Alliston Memorial Arena for Durham
Region Roller Derby and the third overall meeting between the two
leagues. DRRD last visited Alliston for RDD's inaugural bout way back
in November 2011, with RDD's Misfit Militia taking out DRRD's All Star
team in front of a packed house. RDD then sent the Bombshell Battalion
to DRRD in July for the Battalion's first ever bout against the Motor
City Madames, which saw the Madames narrowly defeat the Battalion. With
one win a piece between the leagues, this weekendÕs bout has a little
more than a win at stake, but also bragging rights for the victor
league.
DRRD's Atom Smashers will be led by 12-Gage, Amyfist, Slamureye and
Motor Breath. The Atom Smashers are the 56th ranked house team in
Canada and should provide and excellent challenge for the Bombshell
Battalion.
In any case, the place to be in Alliston on March the 2nd will be the
Alliston Memorial Arena to cheer on your hometown Bombshell Battalion.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door for the licenced, all
ages event.
The Game has Changed
For those that have been to see their hometown Derby Dames play before,
the game itself has changed. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association
(WFTDA), which is the international governing body for the sport, has
updated its rules set, which has provided fans with a much better on
track product. The game has been streamlined and evolved into a better
fan experience.
RDD makes international progress
The Renegade Derby Dames Roller Derby League has made headlines within
the WFTDA by becoming an apprentice league. What this means for RDD is
that they have been recognized as a contributing member of the
worldwide derby community and have been granted the opportunity to earn
a place within the international derby community. By being a successful
and competitive league while promoting the sport, RDD has helped grow
the sport to new heights in and around this area.
Next round of Fresh Meat Training to start March 10th in
Alliston
The Renegade Derby Dames are actively seeking new skaters to take part
