Police warn of possible door to door fraud in the area

Posted June 5, 2014

Nottawasaga OPP are investigating reports of at least one, possibly more, incidents of aggressive sales person who demanded payment for applying driveway sealant at a residence despite being told by the owner they weren't interested in the service.

Police reported this afternoon they were called to a home on the 8th Line in Essa Township last night at 8:54 pm.

"An elderly female answered her door to a male 25-40 years of age who indicated that he would spray her driveway. The male was insistent on doing the spraying even though the home owner made it clear she did not want the work done, the male even stepped inside the residence uninvited," according to OPP, "A portion of the driveway was sprayed by the male suspect who then demanded $700 for the work completed."

The male suspect is described as being taller than 5'9", dark hair, olive coloured skin, wearing dark clothing and driving an older model black pickup truck, with a red compressor type unit in the back of it.

"Police believe that there are two other reported incidents of a similar nature on June 3 between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm on the Adjala-Tecumseth Townline."
