Second arson in consecutive nights, no connection 'at this time'

Posted December 12, 2013

Nottawasaga OPP's Crime Unit is investigating a storage trailer fire that occurred last night at a property on Wales Avenue in Everett which is deemed to be "suspicious."

It's the second "suspicious" fire in two days in the area, including Tuesday night at an abandoned property on the 13th Line in New Tecumseth.

"It is unknown if the two fire scenes are connected at this time," according to the OPP.

Last night, the OPP's K-9 unit was called in as there appeared to be foot prints leading to and from the storage trailer. The search did not yield any suspects.

The 13th Line fire also continues to be under investigation, including involvement from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office.

In its press release yesterday, New Tecumseth Fire Rescue noted that "Arriving crews found a working fire located at the back of the dwelling in an adjoining building which was fully involved and was progressing into the main structure. The fire was quickly spreading into the roof, 2nd floor and the kitchen area on the first floor. The first arriving crew initiated an offensive attack controlling the fire on the exterior and then entering the building and quickly containing and extinguishing the fire. Second arriving crew entered the structure with Thermal Imaging Camera's completing a primary search ensuring there were no occupants in the structure."
