Everett man charged following police pursuit

Posted March 11, 2019

An Everett man faces several charges including forcible confinement following a police chase Saturday morning in Innisfil.

South Simcoe Police reported this afternoon that at approximately 8:30 am on March 9, they observed a vehicle existe a parking lot in Stroud at a high rate of speed, with a woman in the back seat and door open.

"The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the male driver sped away," according to the press release. "A vehicle pursuit ensued but was called off for safety reasons. Barrie Police Service was asked to keep a look out for the suspect vehicle. Shortly thereafter, South Simcoe Police Service located the suspect vehicle abandoned at Georgian Downs.

A woman who was determined to have been in the back seat of the vehicle was subsequently located on foot by Barrie Police nearby.  This led to the apprehension of a male suspect and an 8-year-old child hiding in an out building on a nearby property. Police learned that the child had also been in the fleeing vehicle. Investigation revealed this to a domestic violence-related incident."

A 30-year-old from Everett was arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation (two counts); Flight while pursued by a police officer; Operation while prohibited (two counts); and Forcible confinement.

"The accused was held for a bail hearing.  The woman and the child were not physically injured."
