Raises for fire department

New Tecumseth's part-time firefighters and ranking officers are receiving a 1.5 per cent increase in remuneration for call-outs and training sessions.

Effective Jan. 1, the pay scale, based on a points system, will be as follows:
District Chief: $24.62
Assistant District Chief: $23.15
Captains: $21.67
Firefighters: $19.71
Recruit Firefighters $14.78

Two points are paid for the first hour of a call, and one additional point for each hour or part hour; three points are paid for responding to a call Monday to Friday between 7 am and 5 pm, and one point for each additional hour or part hour. One point is paid for returning to fire station for clean-up; two points are paid per training/meeting if on time, or one point if late. And one point per hour is paid for other duties.

Additionally, an annual salary, is paid out as follows:

District Chief: $3,600
Assistant District Chief/Training Coordinator: $2,400
Captain: $1,200
Fire Inspector: $1,200
Public Education Coordinator: $1,200
Secretary: $1,200
Health and Safety Representative: $250

The increases in remuneration were included in the 2014 municipal budget. New Tecumseth Fire Rescue consists of 105 Volunteer firefighters, a full time Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Prevention Officer. The department operates three fire stations located within New Tecumseth, Station 1-Alliston, Station 2-Beeton and Station 3-Tottenham.
