NT Fire calls down in 2013

New Tecumseth Fire responded to 718 calls in 2013, 50 fewer than the year before, and cost $691,616 in remunerations, according to the Fire Department Annual Report tabled for council Monday night.

The decrease is tagged to fewer medical assists, and vehicle accident responses, though both combined for 52 per cent of the total calls dispatched. Of the $691k paid out in points, 53 per cent was for education, training and committee sessions.

Two points are paid for the first hour of a call, and one additional point for each hour or part hour; three points are paid for responding to a call Monday to Friday between 7 am and 5 pm, and one point for each additional hour or part hour. One point is paid for returning to fire station for clean-up; two points are paid per training/meeting if on time, or one point if late. And one point per hour is paid for other duties.

As of Jan. 1, 2014 the per point rate is:
District Chief: $24.62
Assistant District Chief: $23.15
Captains: $21.67
Firefighters: $19.71
Recruit Firefighters $14.78

The department has bolstered its recruiting efforts for new firefighters over the past year, and is preparing to push forward with its plans to build a new fire Station 4 in east end Alliston - Treetops, Green Briar, Briar Hill.
