Fuel theft ring busted, two charged, more pending

Two 31-year-old males from Brampton face a slew of charges sparked by an Aug. 5th investigation by Nottawasaga OPP of reported large quantities of diesel fuel being stolen from commercial and agricultural vehicles in the region.

The OPP's Street Crime Unit had a description of a suspect vehicle, and it was determined that similar occurrences were being reported in Caledon/Peel and York Region.

"During the morning of Wednesday, August 27th, 2014, the suspect vehicle was located being driven on Highway 7, in Peel Region. With the assistance of Peel Regional Police and Caledon Detachment OPP, the vehicle was stopped," according to the press release. "Two males were subsequently arrested. The vehicle was searched incident to arrest and 5, 1,000 litre tanks were found in the cargo area, along with all necessary fuel pumps to siphon the gas. Also numerous break in tools and clothing to allow the suspects to appear as maintenance personnel were also located."

Sandeep Gill, 31, and Gurpreet Singh, 31, both of Brampton are charged with Theft, Theft of Credit Card, Use Stolen Credit Card, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of the Proceeds of Crime, Possession of Break-In Instruments, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), two counts of Breach of Undertaking.

"As this investigation is ongoing, further arrests and charges are expected."
