Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit adds two more vaccine clinics in Alliston

Posted November 3, 2009

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has added two more H1N1 flu vaccine clinics in Alliston as part of its south Simcoe region schedule raising the number of dates to 17.

The first of them started this morning at 10 am at the Royal Canadian Legion in Bradford running to 8 pm. They continue there tomorrow and Thursday.

On Friday, one of the two new scheduled dates takes place at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre Field House, 7300 Industrial Parkway in Alliston, from 10 am to 8 pm. Then, on Saturday shifts to the Ernest Cumberland School gym on Eighth Avenue in Alliston 10 am to 5 pm. The remaining dates are:

  • November 10 and 12, 10 am to 8 pm Royal Canadian Legion, Bradford (115 Back Street);
  • November 13, New Tecumseth Rec Centre Field House, 10 am - 8 pm;
  • November 14, Ernest Cumberland School (160 Eighth Ave), 10 am to 5 pm;
  • November, 17-19, Legion, Bradford 10 am to 8 pm;
  • November 21, Ernest Cumberland School, 10 am to 5 pm;
  • November 24-26, Adjala-Tosorontio Municipal Office (7855 30 Sideroad), 10 am to 8 pm; and
  • November 28, Bradford District High School cafeteria (70 Professor Day Drive), 10 am to 5 pm.
However, the most significant change in the vaccine schedule has to do with who will be eligible to receive the first round of shots. Those are being reserved for "high-risk groups." They are:
  • People with chronic medical conditions under the age of 65.
  • Healthy children from six months to five years old.
  • Household contacts and care providers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccines (including those caring for infants 0 to 6 months old).
  • Health care workers involved in pandemic response or who deliver essential services.
  • People living in remote communities.
  • Pregnant women - adjuvanted vaccine is available for women who are more than 20 weeks pregnant or have underlying medical conditions. Women less than 20 weeks pregnant and who do not have an underlying medical condition may wish to wait until unadjuvanted vaccine is available (anticipated at the earliest November 9th).
"After people in these priority groups have received their vaccine the clinics will be open to all Simcoe Muskoka residents."

Stay tuned to media updates about when the clinics will open to the general population.
