Honda sales open new year on a lower note

Posted February 7, 2013

Honda Canada reported sales of its vehicle divisions were down 21 per cent in January over the same month last year.

Combined January sales were 7,220 units, of which Honda brands accounted for 6,211, down 27 per cent. The Accord, up 147 per cent, and Fit, was up 68 per cent. The Acura division sold 1,009 units, up 41 per cent over last year, led by the RDX, up 136 per cent.

"January 2012 was an exceptional sales month for us as we caught up to unfulfilled demand for Civic caused by lack of supply in the last three months of 2011," said Jerry Chenkin, Executive Vice President, Honda Canada Inc.

Honda Canada's run in 2012 was its best since 2008, with 148,712 vehicles sold, which was an increase of 21 per cent over 2011.
