Hornets welcome Alsop back, all star game Sunday

Posted  November 2, 2012

The Alliston Hornets re-signed Robbie Alsop earlier this week and he'll be on the bench starting tonight as Erin Shamrocks roll into town for a 7:30 game time at the NTRC.

Alsop, a University of Guelph student, has been the Hornets goalie since joining the team in a December 2010 trade with Midland. He backstopped the team to two league titles, and two trips to the provincial finals - both losses to Grimsby.

He returns in a back-up role, to first year goaltender Tyler Brindle, of Barrie. Brindle is leading all goalies with a 1.59 GAA in 12 games played, sporting a 10-0-1 (OTL) record. He has two shutouts.

To make room for Alsop, the Hornets released Fred Mailhot-Landry, a member of the military who was stationed at Borden.

It's a light weekend for league games, as the annual Jr. C prospects and all-star games are scheduled for Sunday at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg. The GMOHL versus the Western League, and the winner gets home ice advantage in the quarterfinals of the provincial round when they meet in Clarance Schmalz Cup playoffs.

The Hornets have nine players on the all-star roster including Brindle starting in goal, Cole Parker, Bobby Sloan, Randy Cox, Ashton Duthie, Mike Campeau, David Leblance, Mark O'Donnell and Dakota Brooks. Game time is 3:30 pm.

Drake Board and Brandon Alward will represent the Hornets in the prospects game, which gets started at 12:30 pm.

Alliston heads into all-star weekend leading the league with a 12-1-1 record for 25 points after 14 games. While Campeau leads all scorers with 32 points, followed closely behind by Cox with 30 points. And Brindle tops the goaltenders.
