Stayner ends Alliston's run, opening roster setPosted September 12, 2011The Stayner Siskins gained a measure of revenge Sunday ousting the Alliston Hornets in the semi-final round of the weekend's 5th annual pre-season Jr. C tournament at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre. Stayner, which finished 4th in the 15 team round robin, beat first seed Alliston 7-6 in overtime, then defeated Port Perry 5-1 in the finals. The Siskins win ended Alliston's tournament title run at four. For Stayner, it's a bitter sweet pill since the last time they played in Alliston, the Hornets won a 1-0 Game 7 in overtime in the league finals. When the two sides meet again Friday night in Alliston, starting at 7:30 pm, it's to kick-off regular season play. Alliston will ice an opening roster featuring 15 returning from last year's league champion and Schmalz Cup runner-up, (two more starting on injured reserve), bolstered by six new to the squad.
