The Alliston Hornets reclaimed their preseason tournament title Sunday
afternoon with a 3-2 win over Uxbridge at the New Tecumseth Recreation
Centre (NTRC).
It's the 5th time in the six years its been held that Alliston has won
it, disrupted last season by the Stayner Siskins.
The tournament's conclusion triggered the team's last round of cuts in
time for Thursday night's opening game of the 2012-13 GMOHL regular
season at Schomberg. Stayner, swept by the Hornets in last season's
league finals, is in Alliston Friday night to open the home side of the
schedule.
The club released its 23 player opening roster this morning. It
includes 13 back from last season's squad, six from the Barrie AAA/AA
system, and two TNT AA grads.
One of the two new goaltenders, Fred Mailhot-Landry played Jr B in Nova
Scotia last season. He is in the military and is stationed at CFB
Borden. He'll share netminding duties with Tyler Brindle from Barrie
AAA.
Sandy McCarthy is back behind the bench as head coach, as are his
assistants, Rich Gobbatto and Kyle McDowell.
Captains have not yet been announced.
