But I intend to see (it) through to the end." No further details were available at this post (10 am)Innisfil mayor charged with assault, uttering threatsPosted July 2, 2009South Simcoe Police reported this afternoon that they have charged a 60-year-old Innisfil man in connection with an argument between the mayor of Innisfil and one of his councillors on June 24, that was broadcast via a lapel microphone that had not been turned off. No names were released, but the confrontation that occurred during a five minute recess of an Innisfil council meeting, involved mayor Brian Jackson and councillor Bill Pring. According to published reports earlier this week, Mayor Jackson took exception to Mr. Pring's assertion that Innisfil's senior staff was acting "without the will of council" as it related to the ongoing boundary issues between the Town and Barrie. With his microphone still on, Mr. Jackson allegedly used profanity in his discussion with Mr. Pring including telling him to "sit in your f**king chair and shut up." According to the press release this afternoon, South Simcoe Police investigated the incident and charged Mr. Jackson with one count of assault and one count of uttering threats. A first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 6, 2009 in Bradford. Mayor Jackson has led the vocal and active opposition to Barrie's desire to annex thousands of hectares from Innisfil to accommodate its own growth demands. The provincial government tabled legislation that will be voted on in the fall, that gives Barrie, if passed, approximately 2,293 hectares (5,666 acres) effective January 1, 2010. It does not include Georgian Downs. Mayor Jackson, lives in the disputed zone, and if approved, would become a resident of Barrie while sitting as mayor of Innisfil. |
