Councillors 'will continue to spend money they do not have'to the editor,Posted January 11, 2013 Hopefully the proposed 8-9 per cent increase in property taxes will jolt our disaffected zombie population up from the glow of their cell phone screens as it is just a sign of things to come. It proves that deferring the reality of a fiscal mismanagement nightmare is starting to bear fruit. What's going to happen when all of those debentures need to be paid off for all the shiny new toys the council has bought. And now the council wants even more spending on full-time firefighters. I wonder if they used the same consultant to decide if New Tecumseth actually needed two aerial fire trucks to serve our small community? What happens when the development charges do not cover the
expenditures they have planned and spent? Simple, you will be paying
even higher taxes which would drive out business and create a cyclical
effect of lower tax income for the town, and eventually a municipal
default. Adam Hutchinson |
