'Cost increase is going to drive people out of hockey'to the editor,
Posted August 29, 2014
I applaud the TNT hockey President Donna Horan for providing a very lengthy dissertation about how registration fees are calculated.
However, the bottom line is that my son's house league fees have increased from $667 to $1,002 in one year. This is more than a 50 per increase in fees over a one year period, and that quite frankly is absurd. I have a whole other silly rant about the extra $2 that was added to $1,000 for 'internet processing fees', but that would take too long.
Everyone that is involved in the budgeting process, including all the suppliers, need to reevaluate their numbers if they want kids to keep playing.
The hard truth is that this cost increase is going to drive people out of hockey. I know this from many conversations that I have had with concerned parents over the past month who just cannot afford this magnitude of an increase to their household budget.
