Taxi subsidy program should include election day rides

to the editor,

Posted September 2, 2014

Our town council is encouraging all eligible voters to get out there and vote for the candidate of their choosing on October 27th. But, as in the past, lack of transportation is weighing heavily on the voters' minds.

This begs a question, is the Town going to supply said transportation to and from the polling stations? The voters who are clients of the Taxi Subsidy would benefit from our council adding the polling station as one of their recognized destinations on election day.

And a bus, such as the one that was set up for the Potato Festival, would encourage even more of our citizens to get out there and vote.

The percentage of voters who, in the past, have exercised their right to vote is dismal, at best. So, if our town council wants the voters to get out there then it is their responsibility to make sure that said voters have the means to get to the polls.

Alliston
