'I have gotten nowhere with this except more frustrated'

to the editor,

Posted September 17, 2012

I am looking for some help to get the word out about a fill project in New Tecumseth that never seems to end.

The permit was issued in May and was to be completed by August 21st, 2012. The permit was apparently for a 90 day period.

I have been given tons of information about how much fill was intended to be brought in and approximately how long this project would take to complete.

The area in question was about 2.5 acres and it was to be filled about 4 feet which according to individuals in the Town's office should take about six days to complete in an ideal hauling situation (apparently).

The amount of loads they determined to be needed for this project were 400 loads. To date, they have hauled in around 15,000 to 20,000 loads. They haul everyday (except Sundays) from 7am until around 6 pm.

I have sent many e-mails and spoken to several people and still the hauling continues. Ward 7 councillor Bruce Haire called me at the end of August to say that a stop work order was being issued to the property owner (Chris Pasque) by John Miller and still the hauling continues.

Bruce indicated the work order was to be effective immediately and that anything hauled in from that point forward would have to be removed from the property, and still the hauling continues.

I have all the emails I have sent and received from the Town as well as the ones I have sent and received from Bruce Haire. I have only touched on the surface with this information.

I have not even mentioned that fact that part of the said property (1219 17th Sideroad of New Tecumseth) has a creek that runs through it and is suppose to be monitored by the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority.

I have spoken to someone from there as well who said that a permit was not needed for the job that the property owner said was being done. However, there is a silt fence that was erected before the project was started and the dirt that has been hauled in has gone over/past the fence. I see this as a problem but no one seems concerned.

I see this as an environmental issue. What is being dumped over there is not only clean fill but everything you can think of. I have gotten nowhere with this except more frustrated. I also wanted to mention that there is a lawsuit going on right now in New Tecumseth with the same issues.

You would think that the Town would be more willing to monitor these fill projects and keep within the parameters of the permits that are issued for fear of more lawsuits. Why are these projects allowed to happen and why doesn't anyone monitor them more closely?
