'Print something positive and constructive, instead of idle gossip'

Posted September 1, 2010

to the editor,

I find it very alarming that anyone can write what they want and have it published, as was the case with Wayne Hutchinson's letter to the editor.

Can anyone write a letter spreading rumors, attacking whomever they like without any accountability? This must be the case, because his letter was so far off base it is scary to believe that it has actually been given attention and published for people to read.

I understand that people have a right to their opinion, but when it is free press, then the company printing it needs to be accountable as well.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mike MacEachern and Richard Norcross amongst other Town delegates and can only say that we are very fortunate to have people as dedicated as we do working for us at the town level. Is everything they do perfect? No, of course not. Is everything that we do perfect?

I am very proud of our community and when I say community I mean New Tecumseth - Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham. I am proud of the people who dedicate their time, whether paid or volunteers who help make our community better.

It's about time that we started to support one another as a community, stop the mud slinging and help each other to build our towns to keep them improving as time goes on. We have three exceptional communities with unique qualities and different issues.

Let's have some respect for the people who are working hard and try to print something positive and constructive, instead of idle gossip that just wastes everyones time. It's easy to criticize, it's a lot harder to fix the problem.

There are many things we can do to assist our towns in being successful but being negative is not one of them.

Tottenham
