'He could start by demanding payment of the outstanding debt'

Posted July 16, 2012

to the editor,

I find it absurd that Mayor Mike MacEachern has attempted to "intervene" in the ongoing dispute between the Beeton Athletic Association (BAA) and TNT Minor Hockey. This is especially the case in circumstances where the BAA owes the Town for unpaid ice time.

This isn't the first time the mayor has stuck his nose in a dispute that has nothing whatsoever to do with Town business. A few years ago he sought to mediate a dispute between members of the Alliston Soccer Club and ultimately used several town staff, including former clerk Gayla MacDonald, to conduct the club's election.

Rather than attempt to play the role of Superman, I suggest the mayor focus a little more energy on the Town's deplorable financial state.

Perhaps he could start by demanding payment of the outstanding debt from the BAA.

Sadly, we shouldn't expect such fiscal responsibility from this crew. It's far more likely that such a demand would be deemed to require further 'study' by an outside consultant.

Kevin Kemp,
Alliston
