Tottenham not any different than other towns 'maybe even safer'

Posted February 8, 2010

to the editor,

In the past few years I have become increasingly concerned with comments about 'Tottenham the bad.'

A recent street fight has prompted the "not safe to walk the streets at night" and "we need more police presence" comments. I think Tottenham is as safe as any other town, and in many cases, maybe even safer.

Bad things happen everywhere. People make poor decisions everywhere. I remember more trouble when my generation were teens. And by some of the old stories, it sounds like it was much more interesting in the generations before that.

I believe that the few bad things that happen should be weighed against the good. This past year I frequented most community events with my young sons and can say first hand that the community spirit in this town is on it's way up fast.

All of the 'new people' who moved into the 'new subdivisions' a few years back are not new anymore and are contributing to their community. All of our community groups, sports leagues and events are getting better and better.

I am in the area alot and believe we should feel lucky that we have such a substantial police presence. They just can't be everywhere all the time.

I wish that people would focus more on 'Tottenham the good' despite these few unfortunate incidences.

Bo Niederhuber,
Tottenham
