'The increase should be a lot less'to the editor,Posted January 8, 2013 Re: Proposed property tax hike of 8.8 per cent, and water rate hike of five per cent, it's time for this council to go. One would think with all the new development and the fees collected for building permits, that the increase should be a lot less. Where does the money go that would cause our property taxes to increase and water rates to increase? Well, reading back through the year in review sums it up pretty fast. Lawsuits from wrongful dismissals that the Town is quick to point out that have never been proven in a court of law, but were settled out of court at our expense. Does that not point to some admission of guilt? A payout to Richard Norcross of $50,000 plus for something that never should have happened in the first place as it was truly a conflict of interest. And what seems like a blank cheque to the Gibson Cultural Centre to keep it running. I can honestly say that I didn't vote for any of the members currently on council. That being said, they will also not be getting my vote in the next election. Russ Smith, |
