Circle has been around for decades with incidentPosted March 25, 2008to the editor, It's about time The town of New Tecumseth stepped up to the plate. The "Circle" has been the mainstay of entertainment for Alliston and the surrounding area for generations. As one of the last independent theatres in existence the Circle has provided inexpensive movies for many and a gathering place for young and old alike. Some even tend to use the movies as a baby sitter of sorts for their children while mom of dad shop in town. Some may say that the Circle has seen its day, with the technological on slaught of VCR, DVD, Satellite TV, and big screen televisions, but where else can you go and experience good movie entertainment, the smell of the popcorn, kids scuffling their feet on the walkway to and from their seats to the candy bar all for under $5 or less each for seniors, students and children. Scott MacDonald has provided this entertainment for people his whole life, and if people knew the time, effort and cost of putting these movies on the screen, they would probably wonder how he stays in business, charging his prices! I can remember my father telling me, many years ago, that they dug the foundation of the new theatre with a team of horses, that's how long the Circle has been around, and all those years without incident. I'm not saying New Tecumseth Fire Service., shouldn't uphold the law, and see that the safety of people comes first, especially in light of the number of fire deaths in Ontario this year (most of those deaths could have been preventable if people had working smoke and fire detectors), but did any one from the fire department offer any help or suggestions in Mr. MacDonald's case? Or was it just an inspection and here are your violations, fix it or take it to court. Bravo to the Town for finally offering some help. Let's not let the Circle die because it's a long trip to the nearest theatre, and a heck of a lot more expensive. R. McKnight,
