County rejects uploading Adjala-Tosorontio road

Posted January 28, 2014

Main Street in Lisle, between County Road 13 and CFB Borden West gate, will remain with the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio, because it doesn't meet the criteria to become a County Road.

A report to County council on this morning's agenda recommends not approving the Township's request to upload the 1.2 km section because it does not "meet the threshold for functioning as a County road."

Among the eight criteria, the road does not connect population centres, a neighbouring jurisdiction, a provincial highway; carries less than 1,000 vehicles per day, and fewer than 100 trucks per day. However, it "does provide secondary connection to CFB Borden, which warrants some consideration" but only provided a score of 1.

"Over the years jurisdiction of this 1.2 kilometre road section has changed as it was once a County Road and was identified to no longer serve a County function in 1999. Since then, the County continues to maintain this road section in the winter months and also continues to own and maintain a bridge structure located within this section," according to Simcoe County's Director of Transportation, Maintenance and Construction in his report to council. "As can be seen by the analysis and overall score, as a result of low traffic volume and lack of connectivity this road provides, this road section is more appropriately maintained under the jurisdiction of the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio."
