Recommendations to raise municipal fees includes
hiking the cost of a marriage licence by $15 for a total cost of $120
to process the application.
That's one of four charges for services targeted for rate increases in
a report by New Tecumseth Clerk/Director of Administration, Cheryl
McCarroll included on tonight's committee of council agenda - the first
meeting since Dec. 17 when councillors approved a seven per cent
average property tax increase for 2014.
In 2013, New Tecumseth issued 175 marriage licenses. The fee covers the
cost paid to the Province, $48 for each Licence, with the remainder of
the fee covering the Town's administrative time for processing the
Marriage Licence Application.
The biggest jump is proposed for issuance of a Tax Certificate, which
is currently $45 and proposed to rise by $40 "for those requesting a
priority tax certificate which would be processed within 24 hours of
the request. The premium price of $85 is in-line with similar services
offered by the municipality and reflects the cost of expediting the
A $25 fee for a fire permit (one time only) not only climbs by $5, it
would also get a new name: Outdoor Wood Burning Appliance Permit. The
$30 charge would cover the permit and site inspection. And, replacement
and/or extra Green Bins would cost $15 purchased through the Town.
"The proposed newly established fees or proposed amendments to the Fees
and Charges Bylaw as outlined are reflected in the 2014 Budget, to
recover the administrative and associated costs for the services and/or
product being provided by the Town."
