Mayor's intervention yields no results in hockey spat

Posted July 13, 2012

New Tecumseth mayor Mike MacEachern has met separately with representatives of the BAA and TNT Minor Hockey with no progress to report, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Mayor MacEachern would say only this morning that "I have no comment about my meetings or the discussions that occurred with the associations."

Reportedly he has assured the BAA that whether Beeton offers rep hockey will not have any bearing on on the Town proceeding with the proposed $12 million replacement of Beeton Arena with a multi-use recreation centre.

That project is dependent exclusively on the provincial and federal governments contributing financing.

In the meantime, registration for both organizations is underway for the 2012-13 hockey season, and because Beeton is planning to offer rep hockey in C level, those players will not have the opportunity to play for TNT A or AA teams. Kids who live in the "grey zone" will require releases, and then there are limited spaces available for out of boundary players.
