Alcona couple parents to first New Year's Baby at SMH

Stevenson Memorial Hospital's first baby of the New Year arrived at 12:07 a.m. Jan. 1, 2013, giving the Alliston hospital bragging rights in Simcoe County.

The baby boy, who at this post, his name was not confirmed, is the first child of Krystle Waitman and Chris Speirs, of Innisfil. He weighed in at 8 lbs 1 oz.

Ms. Waitman was admitted into hospital at approximately 4 am, she was about eight days past the expected due date of Dec. 22.

SMH presented the family with a flower arrangement and a gift basket, and the hospital's auxiliary was planning to honour the occassion as well. Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie welcomed its first baby at 2:01 a.m. while Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia marked it at 11:25 a.m. Jan. 1. In Collingwood, it was Tuesday evening.
