Tender award delayed on 54 Plus Club building to bring it under budget

Posted May 12, 2014

The first set-back in the approvals process toward construction of the 54 Plus Club addition to the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre is in the contract award itself.

A report to council on tonight's agenda notes that tender bids, which closed April 24, came in over the estimated budget set at $886,106. Of that $630,106 is from development charges reserves, and a $256,000 contribution from the 54 Plus Club.

The proposal, as tendered, was a 4,000 sq. ft addition to the NTRC, including a multi-use room, lounge/activity room, kitchenette, washrooms, and storage. A key aspect is it needs to be ready for occupancy prior to Oct. 31.

"Staff have been reviewing the results of the tender with the architect and Town departments and have been able to identify some cost savings," according to the update. "A meeting has been scheduled with the 54 Plus Club to discuss the tender results and receive their comments on a draft agreement related to the timing of the payment of their contribution and the use of the facility once it is operational. Following the meeting with the 54 Plus Club staff will be in a position to finalize the report for Council."

A special council meeting would be scheduled for May 20 to deal with the revised tender.
