OPP issue warning after police clothing stolen from parked car

Posted March 11, 2010

At 1 am this morning, an OPP officer returned to his personal vehicle parked at the east side commuter lot on Hwy 400 at King Road and found it had been broken into.

Reported missing are a pair of black OPP uniform cargo pants and black OPP uniform shirt that were in a garment bag; and a duffle bag containing a black OPP tactical style jacket, a pair of tactical style pants and an OPP issued baseball style hat.

"The OPP are reminding the public that every police officer in the Province of Ontario, whether on duty in a uniform or in plain clothes capacity or off duty, is required to carry a badge and warrant card (photo ID) and upon request, must produce this identification to prove that they are in fact a police officer," according to a press release from Central Region Headquarters in Orillia.

York Regional Police are investigating.
