OPP warn of possible telephone scam seeking personal information

Posted February 1, 2012

Nottawasaga OPP have issued a warning about an alleged attempt to extract credit card information by someone claiming to offer relief on interest rates as recent as last night.

"Police received a Fraud call indicating that the caller had asked for a credit card number and the security code on the reverse of the credit card, under the pretence of lowering the credit card interest rate," according to the press release. "The male did not give out this personal information but the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind the public to be aware of these types of telephone scams. If you have concerns about a telephone call, call your credit card company and verify whether they have employees making these types of calls."
