Heavy OPP presence to execute search warrant, 'due to nature
OPP provided "no additional details at this time," in relation to
yesterday morning's search warrant execution in Alliston that ended
with one arrest and nearly a dozen various charges, against a
28-year-old male who, at this update, was still in custody pending a
bail hearing today in Barrie.
OPP Sgt. Peter Leon, Central Region Media Relations Coordinator, said
this morning via email the sex related charge "is not a child." but "
can't speak to that specifically." The suspect's name was not released to protect
the victim's identity. The suspect also faces drugs and weapons charges.
Asked about the number of different OPP units that were used to execute
the warrant - Nottawasaga OPP, Central Region Tactics and Rescue
Unit (TRU), Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Community
Drug Action Team (CDAT), Nottawasaga OPP Street Crime Unit, the
Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU), Central Region Canine
Unit and the Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit - Sgt. Leon explained,
"resources included many due to the nature of the investigation. Also
when weapons are involved we utilize specialized resources such as the
TRU team - public and police safety is a priority."
