![]() RBC to push forward with new bank plan on King StreetPosted May 9, 2008As reported here last October, RBC is seeking to open its first bank branch in Alliston and that proposal will be the subject of a public meeting Wednesday night. The plan calls for an RBC with drive-thru services and a separate retail unit to be built at 4 and 10 King Street. Each lot has an existing two storey dwelling. It's anticipated these houses would be demolished. A bylaw amendment is necessary to permit the 3,854 sq. ft. bank, and 2,260 sq. ft. retail unit. An official plan amendment is not required. RBC operates a bank on Main Street in Beeton, and Queen Street in Tottenham, but only has a drive-thru ATM in a parking lot between East Side Mario's and Zellers in west end Alliston. "To date, two letters have been received from the owners of 16 and 20 King Street (properties north of this site)," according to a Town planning staff report which notes they suggest that: "it would be the right time to install a new sewer main with the capacity to service future development on King St. N; and "for safety reasons there should be a sidewalk on the west side of King St. N." For its part the Town has identified nine areas that require "greater detail." And they include in part: compatibility with the surrounding uses and properties (Dairy Queen is immediately south); tree preservation and compensation; traffic impacts and drive thru requirements and its compatibility with the nearby County waste site used for compost, but formerly a dump site. "The above issues will be considered together with comments of the public, council and agencies in a comprehensive report to a future committee of council meeting." TD is also preparing to build a second branch in Alliston, this one next to McDonald's on Hwy 89 at Industrial Parkway. It too will have drive-thru banking services. |
