MTO 'pressing' for 10 SR realignment to happen sooner than later

Posted October 1, 2012

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) wants the planned realignment of 10 Sideroad in New Tecumseth and the 6th Line of Essa moved up in the phasing order of the approximate 1,900 unit Belterra/Treetops development.

In a Sept. 20 email to Essa Township CAO Greg Murphy,  Gary Templeton, planning consultant to Cable Bridge Enterprises, explains that despite the developer's intention to build-out starting from the south (14th Line) to the north (Hwy 89), "MTO are pressing for intersection improvements at Highway 89 to occur early in the building programme."

Concept design of planned realignment of 10 SR with 6th Line of Essa.

"The developer is willing to undertake that and has already undertaken some preliminary functional design work for discussion with MTO," writes Mr. Templeton. "The strategy will be to undertake detailed design work and receive approval in 2013 and to construct the improvements (including signalization) before the end of the same year. The developer expects to receive development charge credits from the Town of New Tecumseth for the cost of undertaking the improvements."

His email requests Essa's support "in principle subject to the opportunity to review and comment to MTO on design details during the approval process."

Because this new intersection will include traffic lights, it's not clear at this point whether that will impact the proposed traffic signals at the Nottawasaga Resort/Green Briar community entrance at Hwy 89.
