Cellphone to ear while driving leads to drug bustPosted March 10, 2010A vehicle pulled over by OPP Wednesday afternoon west of Alliston because the driver was using a cellphone, yielded a pound of marijuana and the arrest of two local males. The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 pm. An OPP officer patrolling Hwy 89 at Cty Rd 50 spotted a westbound motorist holding his cell phone, which is now a traffic violation in Ontario. "This traffic stop took a different turn when it involved a drug seizure from the same motor vehicle," according to the press release. "Further investigation lead to the seizure of two half pound bags of marijuana buds with a street value of $2,500. Also seized was $200." Police don't include how they discovered the drugs from the traffic stop. A 20-year-old driver, and a 19-year-old passenger both of Alliston were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The driver was also charged with driving while using a hand held device. Both are scheduled to appear in Bradford court in April. |
