Nottawasaga OPP reported this afternoon that what started as an
investigation into "runaway youths" reported early yesterday morning,
ended in their arrest and recovery of stolen property.
"As a result of receiving this information members of the OPP
immediately commenced an investigation which resulted in the recovery
of a stolen motor vehicle, a stolen Artic Cat snow machine and a stolen
bike valued at over $1,000," according to police. "
Investigation revealed the youths had been involved in the theft of an
automobile which was recovered in Alliston. One of these youths later
stole a bicycle and was tracked by members of the Ontario Provincial
Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) assisted by members of the OPP
Nottawasaga to a commercial rooftop. The Town of New Tecumseth Fire
Department were called to assist with removing this youth from the
rooftop.
Quick action by these members of the OPP not only resulted in the
recovery of stolen property and also prevented serious harm to the
youth who was found shaking uncontrollably due to the onset of
hypothermia."
Currently two young persons are facing numerous criminal charges as a
result of this continuing investigation, but no further details at this
post were provided.
