Attempt to take shovel without asking following accident ends in charges

Posted January 9, 2014

A GTA man is facing several charges that stem from his actions after the vehicle he was driving ended up in a ditch on the 10th Line in Essa.

Police reported this afternoon, they were called to the accident scene yesterday at 1:13 pm.

"When Officers arrived on scene, they spoke to the male driver but the driver refused to identify himself to Police.  The male was arrested for failing to identify himself under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario," according to police. "During the course of the investigation, Officers determined that the male walked to a neighbouring home and got into an altercation with the property owners and made some threats toward them."

Reportedly, the male had taken a shovel without permission that sparked the confrontation.

The 26-year-old male is charged with Resist Peace Officer, Theft under $5,000, and Uttering threats to cause bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 13.
