Federal election campaign underway, no incumbent in Simcoe-Grey

Posted September 11, 2019

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dissolved Parliament this morning triggering the start of the 43rd general federal elections in Canada, October 21.

For the first time since the 1997 elections, Simcoe-Grey will not have an incumbent on the ballot as Kellie Leitch, Conservative, did not seek re-election.

As of this post, running to replace Ms. Leitch in Simcoe Grey are Terry Dowdall, Conservative; Lorne Kenney, Liberal; Ilona Matthews, NDP; and Sherri Jackson, Green Party. Jeff Harris was acclaimed PPC candidate in April, but told Free Press Online he dropped out "for personal reasons." He said they're "hoping" to have a candidate "very soon." Nominations to appear on the ballot, close Oct. 1.
