SmartCentres in no rush to rebuild MacKenzie Pioneer Road

Posted October 29, 2012

Alliston SmartCentres has been granted a five year extension on its obligation to urbanize the section of MacKenzie Pioneer Road between Cty Rd 10 and Dunham Drive.

The roughly paved southern access point into the Walmart anchored plaza will remain an unassumed roadway until "future development conditions require its completion."

SmartCentres is installing the watermain extension along MacKenzie Pioneer to service the new Tim Hortons outlet that's expected to open in the next month or two. The coffee shop will feature a two-lane drive-thru window to curtail backed up vehicles affecting other movement in the parking lot.

The plaza's expansion has proceeded slower than originally pitched after the OMB approved it could develop approximately 400,000 sq ft of commercial space. Walmart first opened in January 2010.
